Preparing for IB Essays




Attaining a 7 on an IB Psychology essay has been made to appear much tougher than it really is. There is neither any mystery to it, nor any need for toiling. Careful attention on and regular practice of implementing the core elements of essay answer writing - a formal style, relevant content, simple illustrations and comprehensive coverage - is all that is needed to make it to the highest mark band.


As I graded a couple of essays sent to me recently, I realized how damaging it is to not have an appropriate understanding of the skill of answer writing right while beginning the practice of writing essays in psychology. Arbitrary, unorganized attempts of coming up with good answers not only results in poor essays but also fails to create the needed confidence to attempt essays in the examination. I have come across many an anxious student who could have avoided being in that state with thoughtful guidance through their course.

Preparing for Research Project Work

The last few weeks could easily be labeled, 'Project Weeks' for students of TYBA across colleges. As teachers fail in giving concrete guidelines to students for working on their projects, instead giving a generic instruction, "Follow the APA format," it is up to tutors to take students through understanding, connecting, explaining and formally presenting the numerous studies that they have to review for every single project.
