Preparing for Practical Internals and Vivas


It's been another week of practice, practice and more practice! An introduction to the subject of practicals is actually far from being an introduction. It is a complete course in itself. I enjoyed imparting this course for the nth time to my students in the past few weeks. It's always my pleasure.

Preparing for IB Essays

Attaining a 7 on an IB Psychology essay has been made to appear much tougher than it really is. There is neither any mystery to it, nor any need for toiling. Careful attention on and regular practice of implementing the core elements of essay answer writing - a formal style, relevant content, simple illustrations and comprehensive coverage - is all that is needed to make it to the highest mark band. As I graded a couple of essays sent to me recently, I realized how damaging it is to not have an appropriate understanding of the skill of answer writing right while beginning the practice of writing essays in psychology. Arbitrary, unorganized attempts of coming up with good answers not only results in poor essays but also fails to create the needed confidence to attempt essays in the examination.
