About the Tutor

Having a passion for both, the subject of psychology and teaching for higher education, I, Jyotika Varmani (M.A. Psychology Hons.,  NET, SET) have spent the last five years imparting personalized, professional help to students of psychology and related subjects from the IB, GCSE, state-board, undergraduate and postgraduate backgrounds. I have successfully tutored students from institutes like Aditya Birla World Economy, Billabong High, Mithibai Autonomous, Mumbai University IDOL, Mumbai University Kalina campus, NL College, Sathaye College Nanavati College, SNDT Women's University, Swami Dayanand University and Thakur Ramnarayan College, among others; for their theoretical answer-writing, application of Statistics, Research Methods and Practical, individual and group projects, research paper writing, use of software like SPSS, R, Excel, OpenSesame and other work. 

My teaching method involves a thorough conceptual understanding of every lesson along with marking and outlining of answer structures and keypoints, regular assignments of theory and practicals, oral and written tests, revisions and reviews and complete guidance for project work and research writing. Helping students rise from near failure in psychology to attaining top ranks in the subject is my forte, as time and again, I have propelled students in clearing their backlogs and attaining the highest marks in further examinations; with my simplified, step-wise guidance and the highly motivating study atmosphere I intentionally create.

In the course of my career, I have received frequent requests from my students and their parents to guide students in other subjects such as English, Philosophy, Economics, Political Science and Sociology, among others; for their boards and UG exams. Fulfilling these requests has been a pleasure.

I also have a passion for writing about academic and general psychology, which I do regularly on my blog which is internationally referenced by students and teachers. It has been mentioned as a resource for A-level studies by Cambridge International Education and has garnered recognition from international professors of psychology. Preparing for IB Essays

Attaining a 7 on an IB Psychology essay has been made to appear much tougher than it really is. There is neither any mystery to it, nor any need for toiling. Careful attention on and regular practice of implementing the core elements of essay answer writing - a formal style, relevant content, simple illustrations and comprehensive coverage - is all that is needed to make it to the highest mark band. As I graded a couple of essays sent to me recently, I realized how damaging it is to not have an appropriate understanding of the skill of answer writing right while beginning the practice of writing essays in psychology. Arbitrary, unorganized attempts of coming up with good answers not only results in poor essays but also fails to create the needed confidence to attempt essays in the examination. Preparing for Research Project Work

The last few weeks could easily be labeled, 'Project Weeks' for students of TYBA across colleges. As teachers fail in giving concrete guidelines to students for working on their projects, instead giving a generic instruction, "Follow the APA format," it is up to tutors to take students through understanding, connecting, explaining and formally presenting the numerous studies that they have to review for every single project. It's been a hectic but engaging long period of studying tens of out-of-the-textbook research papers for me. I hope your work is keeping you busy and creatively occupied as well.
